Friday Links: 1/26

I turned 22.5 yesterday and today I have an exam that threatens to destroy all that I hold most dear. I’ve been studying since I woke up at 5:30 am. (Approximately five hours ago). There are about three hours left. It’s panic time.

Here’s what’s happening online:

Friday Links: First of September

As always, on the first of the month I like to share my new desktop background. As always, it is tiled.
Also- under two weeks until I arrive in France. GAH.

So what’s been happening this week on the interwebs? Continue reading “Friday Links: First of September”

Friday Links: 6/30 Edition

I have a lot of exciting news to share that I can’t share yet because not everyone in my physical life knows the news yet- but stay tuned for a thrilling announcement.
On a less significant but still exciting note: I won $150 dollars off of Dad this morning. It’s been a good day.

Other news: I’m away this weekend and into Tuesday, being back Tuesday night and possibly posting again on Wednesday. So a short hiatus, in honor of Independence Day and family visiting.  So instead of checking in here, do enjoy your barbecues and illegal fireworks, popsicles and movie nights with the family.

Other other news: I’ve been very excited by the growth of the blog in the past few months, and you may remember that last month was the first that views exceeded 1.0k.  This being the last day of the month, you may be interested in an update of the blog views- with 2 more views we will breach 1.0k yet again! Which generally does happen in a day, statistically. But it is early and presumptuous to celebrate, so again stay tuned for Wednesday for the final word.

Now back to the actual links game that we play every Friday: Continue reading “Friday Links: 6/30 Edition”

Oscars Red Carpet ’17: Women

Agh, the Oscars always inspiring people to play it safe! I know it’s at least partly because the media can be awful in how it tears into the ‘Worst-Dressed’, so I can’t really fault anyone, but… sigh.
Color trends of the night: black first and foremost, white as a close second, metallics in third.
Groundbreaking, no?

And having just complained about the vicious tabloids, I’m going to be a teeny bit hypocritical and give a shout out to the few dresses I have semi sound-bite-y non-positive things to say about.
Naomie Harris’ dress had a butt cape. And without that design detail it would just be a kind of dull strapless white dress? And I thought I liked her shoes but then I realized the ankle and toe straps are switched in detailing, which is upsetting me more than it should.  It’s what I get for disrespecting the butt cape.
Dakota Johnson has a bladder pouch. Still trying to discern my feelings about this.  It’s very Victorian and has a lot of sheen, both of which I think I like, but it still comes across as kind of off? Maybe it’s just a hard dress to wear, and possibly not her best color.
I’m not sure what possessed Jessica Biel to pair that necklace with that already touchy metallic dress. I would have liked it much better if she had kept it simple, without the weird destructive effect on the gown, and without the necklace.
But still all of them are absolutely beautiful, and at least they did something different enough that one can say something about it.

And now a bunch of favorites 🙂 Continue reading “Oscars Red Carpet ’17: Women”

Stylist to the Stars, Oscars 2017

Tomorrow is Oscars day! Very excited to see who wins what (now that I’ve finally caught up on ALL of the big movies) and of course, who wears what.  After being inspired by both Man Repeller and Harper’s Bazaar, and perhaps a little bit by the foofaraw (be right back, adding that to my next ‘Words’ post) re: Meryl Streep and Karl Lagerfeld, I decided to free my imagination (within the narrow overlap of Oscar-nominated actresses/actresses in Oscar-nominated films and the collections shown at 2017 couture week.  Hope fully it doesn’t come too much across that I have vast preferences for some couture shows over others (because I could get another list out of that!), because I tried to be very even-keel and non-personal in my recommendations. I wanted to do this like a professional.
So, if I were *stylist to the stars*, what would they be wearing? Well, it would definitely be a more exciting Red Carpet showing 😉 Continue reading “Stylist to the Stars, Oscars 2017”

Profiles in Style: Alexa Chung

Alexa Chung is a pretty canonical style role model, and while I enjoy her sense of fashion, I can honestly say that I don’t think I would want to meet her.
In the interviews I’ve seen with her (Yes, I do watch those egregiously back-pat-y fashion industry interviews. I sometimes almost like them 😛 ), she comes off as kind of standoffish and abrasive.  Like maybe she’s low key mocking her interviewer.
And as a sensitive snowflake I can’t imagine a more exhausting or upsetting type of conversation.

So I like my Alexa Chung where she is: on my computer screen, with clothing.

And therein lies the difficulty: Alexa Chung wears clothes a lot. At least as much as most of us. So I’m not cataloguing all of Alexa’s outfits, but here’s a mini-selection that I’ve arranged in a way I find aesthetically pleasing for reasons I can’t and/or won’t explain.

And no, Alexa, I don’t think Uggs are coming back. God forbid. Continue reading “Profiles in Style: Alexa Chung”
