La Vie en Rose #1: Misadventures

Heyyy, today’s my first day of grad school at ISIPCA! Who’s panicking? (Low key, me).  But it’s a stretch even calling it a day at school. We have an informational meeting at 2:30 and then a big mingle from 5:30 on. Tomorrow is the real deal (taking place from the very reasonable 9:30-5:30, with about an hour break for lunch)(High school break was 28 minutes, 22 if you cut out the three minute passing periods on either side).
This is also the latest in the year that I’ve ever not been in school- for approximately my entire life.

So I’ve been in this beautiful country for about a week and a half and there are so many things to talk about! It’s amazing and beautiful and entirely new!
I’m looking forward to documenting it and writing about it and sharing it, but first I think I’m going to start on a slightly more personal note, which will be a few of my ‘misadventures’ or other weird experiences, thus far. Continue reading “La Vie en Rose #1: Misadventures”

Versailles Checklist: Being a French Basic

21768874_1614493228590271_7797270327541279453_o

It would have been great if I had managed to get this post up before buying and carrying around my first baguette, because that would have been on the list.
But I took my baguette on its maiden voyage a few hours ago, and in the interest of journalistic integrity I am unwilling to pretend otherwise.

But there are a few other things that seem like essential ‘living in France rites of passage’. Continue reading “Versailles Checklist: Being a French Basic”

Places I Need to Find in Versailles

This is going to be a quick one because I want very much to go to bed. France is great, my home here is beautiful. There’s so many amazing things to say but you know what? It’s tricky feeling so incompetent and ineffective. I can’t do anything because there are still so many things to figure out.
And I’m used to being a pretty effective, efficient individual.

To get my bearings and settle in, here’s what I need to find.

  • A Bio-Market: Check
  • A Movie Theater: And see how many English films (or films aver sous-titres) there are
  • A Library: And how many books in langues etrangeres- particulierement anglais.
  • A Farmer’s Market: Check
  • My University: Check
  • A Patisserie/Bakery near my house: Check
  • A Pharmacie: They’re EVERYWHERE
  • The Way to get to Paris par train

I think those are the main things.

A links post will be coming in the not too distant future, but I’m scrambling right now.

I hinted in my last post about having some very BIG IMPORTANT EXCITING news to reveal and that’s true- to an extent. In that it’s much BIGGER MORE IMPORTANT MORE EXCITING news if you’re me.

And that is that I’ve been accepted into IFF-ISIPCA’s 3-year MSc program in Scent Design and Creation.  Starting in late September I’ll be studying fragrance in Versailles, France. Continue reading “My Big News”
